Virtual Meter
Virtual Meters are meters that do not have any corresponding physical device or channels. Instead the reading data for virtual meters is calculated by other meters around them. There are two types, aggregate meters and remainder meters.
Aggregate Meters
Aggregate meters are when multiple meters readings are summed to create a virtual meter as a parent to those meters. An example of this could be if you want readings for a specific selection of individually metered floors but don't have a meter set up for that. In this case we can add an aggregate virtual meter as a parent to that selection of individually metered floors.
Remainder Meters
Remainder meters are when a parent meter is already available, but the existing child meters do not sum to the parent meter. In that case we create a remainder meter to capture the remainder of the reading. An example of this is if you have a metered floor in a building with two metered office spaces, the meter for the floor reads higher than the sum of the two offices as there is communal usage of energy too for things like elevators, heating and lighting. In this case we would add a remainder virtual meter to capture the communal energy reading as the floor readings minus to two office readings.
